AFRICA HEALTHCARE NETWORK (AHN): BUSINESS REMODELING WITH DESIGN THINKING

TL;DR | Tackled a complex problem with design methodologies in a space where it’s least expected (clinical operations and regulatory risks). Successfully aligned senior leadership (and my own team) who are new to design thinking to build and follow frameworks tailored to AHN’s current needs...ultimately yielding actionable solutions and C-suite and investor approval.

THE PROJECT

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, AHN’s mission is to transform kidney care in Africa by providing accessible, high-quality services while expanding to meet the continent’s growing demand for chronic care. As part of MIT’s Global Entrepreneurship program, my team and I worked with AHN’s C-suite to strategize and analyze risks for a new offering model for AHN to implement as a more sustainable revenue stream. I led the pivotal workshop and solution synthesis with the AHN leadership by introducing design thinking and user-centric methodologies.

MY ROLE

  • Internal stakeholder interviews

  • Site visits, clinic staff and patient interviews

  • Facilitator and planner, design thinking workshop

  • Synthesis, workshop insights

  • New offering model roadmap based on prioritization and newly identified requirements

  • Regulatory requirement analysis for new clinics (risk assessment)

OUTCOMES & IMPACT

Senior leadership alignment (ideation, quickly yet thoroughly aligning on new priorities and quick-wins), buy-in from investors on new model, super positive response from both senior leadership and board chair.
